Information about Turkish Freezones - cont. II-Antalya Freezone Adjacent to Antalya
Port, Antalya Free Zone encompasses an area of 536.740 square meters of
public property. A customs corridor was established between the zone and
the port and thereby the connection of the zone with the port has been
assured. Commercial activities in Antalya Free Zone have commenced in 1988
and ASBAT, a private firm performs as the zone operator company. As of end
of 1998, the volume of trade realized by zone users has reached to 168.084 USD.
Total 94 firms of which 16 are foreign hold free zone operating licenses.
47 firms are operating in the field of purchasing and selling while 15
firms production, 13 firms renting, 6 firms banking and insurance, 6 firms
storing and the rest in the fields of assembling-disassembling and
repair-maintenance.
III-Aegean Freezone Just 4 kilometers away from
the Adnan Menderes International Airport and 14 kilometers away from the
Izmir Port, Aegean Free Zone covers an area of 2.2 square kilometers of
public estate. Zone is basically designed for hi-tech industries and
commercial activities have partly commenced in 1990. The founder-operator
company of the zone ESBAT has a foreign share of 96.4 %. As of end of 1998,
the volume of trade realized by zone users has reached to 1.446.380.000 USD.
Total 362 firms of which 71 are foreign hold free zone operating licenses.
259 firms are operating in the field of purchasing and selling while 59 firms
production, 5 firms renting and 12 firms banking-insurance and the rest
storing, assembling and repair-maintenance.
IV- Istanbul Ataturk Airport Freezone Istanbul
Atatürk Airport Free Zone has two sections, the first one provides 33
premises and has been in operation since 1990, while the second one which
became operational in 1991 offers 57 premises. The zone is operated by
ISBI- Istanbul Atatürk Airport Free Zone Founder and Operator Inc. Total
350 firms of which 47 are foreign hold free zone operating licenses. As of
end of 1998 the volume of trade realized by zone users has reached to
1.778.062.000 USD which shows an increase of 105 per cent as compared to
1997.
V- Trabzon Freezone Commercial activities in the
zone have been performed since August 4, 1992. The founder-operator company
of the zone is TRANSBAT and has a foreign share of 94 %. TRANSBAT has rent
an area of 44.692 square meters in Trabzon Harbour from General Directorate
of Turkish Marine Works Organization. As of end of 1998 the volume of trade
realized by zone users has reached to 57.482.000 USD. There are 24 licensed
firms in the zone of which 7 are foreign. One firm has an establisher
license, 21 firms hold purchasing and selling operating licenses while the
rest storing, banking, insurance operating licenses.
VI- Istanbul Leather and Industry Freezone The
Zone has been established on a 88.000 square meters of private estate by
Founder-Operator Company, DESBAT. Commercial activities in the Zone started
in May 1995. There are 385 firms of which 65 are foreign hold free zone
operating licenses. As of end of 1998, the volume of trade by zone users
reached 2.354.483.000 USD. Though the Istanbul Leather and Industry Free
Zone was aimed to specialize in leather products, other field of activities
can also be carried out by zone users.
VII-Erzurum-Eastern Anatolian and Mardin
Freezones Furthermore, the establishment of Erzurum-Eastern Anatolian and
Mardin Free Zones are envisaged within the framework of the measures taken
for the development of Eastern and Southeastern Anatolian, and within this
context a Decree of the Council of Ministers No: 94/6028 which determines
the location and boundaries of the Erzurum-Eastern Anatolia and Mardin Free
Zones, was issued in the Official Gazette dated 2.10.1994 and No: 22069.
These two new free zones were put into operation on November 1995. The
volume of trade realized in these free zones reached 476.000 USD and
13.698.000 USD respectively as of end of 1998.
VIII-Istanbul International Stock Exchange
Freezone Istanbul International Stock Exchange Free Zone began to perform
its activities on February 24, 1997. In order to create an international
finance center in Istanbul, the Council of Ministers Decree (numbered
95/6571) concerning Istanbul Stock Exchange Free Zone was issued on April
1, 1995 and as of February 1, 1996 the ISE-International Stock Exchange
Free Zone has started to accept the applications of domestic and foreign
members of the ISE that have been authorized or proposed to engage with the
transactions in the Istanbul Stock Exchange. In this free zone, in a
climate where the risk of taxation and rate of exchange were lifted, the
export and second hand transactions of stocks from Türkiye and other
countries will be realized within the framework of principles defined by
Istanbul Stock Exchange (ISE) and necessary liquidity will be created with
the participation of international investors. The trading volume has
reached to 12.441.722 USD as of end of 1998.
IX- Izmir Menemen Leather Freezone Commercial
activities started in the Zone in May 1995 which is established on an area
of 1.600.000 square meters. There are 148 firms of which 4 are foreign hold
free zone operating licenses. As of end of 1998, the volume of trade by
zone users reached to 178.578.000 USD.
X- Rize Freezone Rize Free Zone is founded and
operated by RISBAS-Rize Free Zone Founder and Operator Inc. on an area of
85.000 square meters just 8 kilometers to Rize Port and put into operation
in April 1998. There are 11 firms holding operating licenses. As of end of
1998, the volume of trade by zone users reached to 1.726.000 USD.
XI- Samsun Freezone Samsun Free Zone is founded
and operated by SASBAT-Samsun Free Zone Founder and Operator Inc. on an
area of 72.632 square meters adjacent to Samsun Port and put into operation
in May 1998. There are 9 firms holding operating licenses. As of end of
1998, the volume of trade by zone users reached to 1.958.000 USD.
XII- Istanbul Thrace (Catalca) Freezone Istanbul Thrace
Free Zone is founded and operated by ISBAS-Istanbul Thrace Free Zone
Founder and Operator Inc. on an area of 387.500 square meters in Çatalca
district of Istanbul and put into operation in August 1998. There are 29
firms holding operating licenses of which 2 are foreign. As of end of 1998,
the volume of trade by zone users reached to 19.769.000 USD. On the other
hand, it is planned that commercial activities will be started in Kayseri,
Adana-Yumurtalik, Thrace (Çorlu) and Gaziantep Free Zones within this year.
